JOY GOHRING

Hi, I’m Joy! I tell stories—through photography, film, and occasionally on stage with a mic. As a contributor to Getty Images & Variety, I’ve captured everything from red carpets to behind-the-scenes moments to the electric energy of comedy festivals. My camera and I have been lucky enough to witness incredible moments, and my goal is always to bottle up that magic so it lasts forever.

I fell in love with storytelling as a kid, thanks to a Kodak Instamatic, some very patient stuffed animals, and a three-week wait for film development. That passion led me to study at the University of Texas in journalism, which lead me to help with publicity for HBO’s Comedy Arts Festival, which ended up getting me a spot on HBO’s “New Faces” line-up as a stand-up comic, which lead to me acting TV shows & films…before finally going behind the camera as a director.

I’m a graduate of AFI’s prestigious Directing Workshop for Women, where my film 18 landed me in Filmmaker Magazine’s “Top 25 Filmmakers to Watch.” I’ve produced projects Disney, Hulu, Taco Bell, Adidas, T-mobile & more. Now, I’m documenting the global rise of stand-up comedy while continuing to create cinematic, dynamic, and deeply human stories.

I work with an insanely talented team of cinematographers, editors, and creatives who can help bring your vision to life—on the big screen, small screen, or anywhere in between. Let’s make something unforgettable!
